Birthday Cake Fun!

It seems unreal to me that my "baby" just turned 15.  Seriously.  Where did the time go?

It's even more hard to believe that while she's growing up in the blink of an eye, I, on the other hand, am holding steady at 29...year after year.  Don't know how I do it!  {wink, wink}!

For those of you that are moms with teenagers, you can relate when I say that whatever "mom" thinks is a great idea, the teenager will automatically want the opposite.  It's just the way it goes during a certain stage of teenhood.

So, needless to say, while I was full of grand, fabulous ideas for my daughter's birthday cake, she wanted nothing to do with any of them.  (Although, in the end, I still kind of got my way).  :)

Here's what she ended up with:

Simple and cute, complete with lime green and pink polka dots as requested by the birthday girl.

I did, however, sprinkle a little touch of "mom" into the cake.  (I couldn't resist)!

So, I added the fun little banner...

...and added the requested colors to each layer of the cake, so that when it was cut, it looked like this:

Fun, right?

Originally, I wanted to do a tall cake, with two layers of each color.

In the end, though, it was too tall and didn't look great.

This is the part of the story where I got my way.

I reallllly wanted to make a ruffle cake for her birthday, but she wanted no parts of it.  Too "childish" for her.

But, since I had three extra layers of cake lying around...

...I got to make it anyway!

I've been dying to make this cake since the first time I saw it on Amy Atlas' blog.

I was pretty pleased with the way it turned out, considering that I'd never used that cake tip before.

I do think that next time I'll try to make my buttercream a little creamier so that it "ruffles" better.  My batch was a little stiff.

Nonetheless, not bad for my first try!

And of course, it, too, had all of the pretty colors inside.

It was yummy, too!

And the birthday girl was happy and smiling...which always does a momma's heart good!  :)

Happy Celebrating!
Jen

1.  A zebra print cupcake stand from GreenPartyGoods.com
You may remember the review that I did on this stand last year and how amazing I found this stand to be!
The stand holds up to 40 cupcakes, with ample room for toppers, and can be wiped clean and used over and over again.  Ribbon and double-sided tape included!  :)

2.   Sweet Swarovski crystal encrusted cupcake earrings from 3 Little Birds Boutique.   You may remember Kristen, the incredibly talented designer behind 3LBB, from my NYC posts.  She is even sweeter than her designs are...if that's even possible!  :)

Rebecca is another fun "chick" that I met in NYC, and she is one of my favorite designers!  She's got a fresh, fun style that you're gonna love, too!  :)

4.   How precious would this table runner from A to Zebra celebrations be with the ice cream parlour party collection above?  So cute, right?!!  Table runners are just one of the many fun party items you'll find in my sweet friend Nancy's shop, and she's offering you a $30 gift code to choose anything you'd like!  :)

5.  And while we're on the subject of ice cream, the lucky winner of this giveaway will also be receiving Lime Slushie Soapopz from one of my favorite sweet shops, Milk and Cookeez!  I have been in love with Tammy's creations since the moment I laid eyes on them! Remember the rock candy soaps that I used as favors at the Sweet Shoppe party?  Yep, they were made by Tammy.  And this lime scented sudsy is just as sweet!  :)
