The response to our Cake Boss Party has been tremendous!
Thank you all so much for your kind words!
(If you missed the party in the previous posts, don't worry!
There were quite a few DIY projects included in this party that you party peeps wanted to learn about, so we're kicking off the first of a few tutorials with details on how to make the cake stands pictured above.
They are SO incredibly easy to make, and thanks to the dollar store, unbelievably inexpensive!
I created cake stands for all of the little girls at the party for less than $20! Gotta love it!
Here's how you can do it, too:
From the dollar store I picked up white melamine plates and glass candleholders (one for each cake stand).
Then I headed over to WalMart for some white spray paint ($3-$4 per can) and a tube of E6000 glue.
Create an area outside or in a well-ventilated area where you can paint your candlesticks.
I used an old pizza box so I could easily move the candlesticks inside the garage between coats.
I thought that I would need to rough up the surface of the glass so the paint would stick but it ended up adhering just fine with no prepping at all.
SO easy! I think I applied 3 or 4 coats of paint to make sure they were covered nicely, allowing the paint to dry between coats. Here's how they should look when they're all painted:
Next, squeeze some of the E6000 glue around the top rim of the candlesticks.
I would do this outside, also, because the glue is pretty smelly.
This glue is very gooey and tacky so try not to get it on your skin.
Immediately stick the candlestick to the center of the bottom of a plate, applying pressure to adhere.
Allow to dry upside down...it dries fairly quickly.
When they're all done, you'll end up with little cake stands that look like this.
How simple, right?!! Now all they need is cake!
The little Cake Bosses took care of that:
Pretty little project with an even prettier price tag! :)

I also have the entire printable party collection available as well, if you'd like to take a peek: http://www.etsy.com/listing/90411426/cake-boss-inspired-printable-party. If you have any questions or if I can be of any more help, just let me know! :)
DeleteI love these! Wondering how stable they are? any tipping issues?
ReplyDeleteThank you! The glue is incredibly strong, and if the candlestick is centered well under the plate, the stand should be very stable. We didn't have any issues...they turned out great! Hope this helps you! :)
DeleteNICE...I like the idea! From what I can tell, you didn't use any paint ON the plate itself(?). If you were to do that, would you have to use a special paint in order for it to be safe to put food on top of it...?
ReplyDeleteThanks
